Vanya and Sonya and Masha and Spike
By Christopher Durang
Winner Of The Tony Award For Outstanding New Play 2013
Middle-aged siblings Vanya and Sonia bicker and pine about the dashed dreams and squandered hopes of their lives in the sunny Morning Room of the family farmhouse in Bucks County, PA. When their movie-star sister, Masha, suddenly swoops in with her new boy-toy, Spike, old resentments flare up, eventually leading to threats to sell the house. Joined on the scene by their prophetic housekeeper Cassandra, and a dewy aspiring actress named Nina - whose youthful prettiness troubles Masha’s precariously propped-up vanity – they prepare to attend a neighbor’s costume party and the stage is set for a giddy farce on Chekhovian themes.
